never buying from maxi aids again

Well all. Let me tell you all something here. I had bought a few products from maxi aids. These include a talking scale and a talking thermometer and some other items that I have purchased. Well the talking scale lasted no more then a year, I bought two talking thermometers which never worked at all and the recent item I bought lasted no more then a month. I wrote them about my disatisfaction I was having and asked for a compinsation. Well they said I could return my recent purchase but I'd have to pay shipping. Now why should I have to pay shipping? They say it's because it was past 30 days. I understand that but I feel I shouldn't have to pay return shipping for something that lasted that short of time. So they say that's their policy. So from now on if I need to buy something I'll ether buy it from a local agency or I'll also look at other companies because I'm not going to get screwed like that ever again.

ILA sucks donkey balls as well. I've bought 3 watches, 1 timer, and a card shuffler of all things from them. All broken in less than a day, they didn't even work, it's bullshit.
perhaps a slight exaggeration, but not to far off.

hmm. i've purchased many things from maxiaids. all work well accept for the cheap things that i expect wouldn't last for a lifetime.

I've purchased a lot of things from maxi aids. All have definitely lasted me more than a year. Are you sure you yourself treated the products ok? I suppose there are the occasional faulty products, but I, personally, have always liked maxi-aids's products.

My question is, why blame Maxi Aids when first of all they did not actually manufacture the products and second, they probably weren't aware the stuff was faulty. Many companies want you to pay shipping if you need to return stuff, that's just policy. They probably could have gladly replaced the items if you had just paid for shipping. Plus, most of the other companies that sell adaptive equipment either use the same importers and manufacturers, else they just buy from Maxi Aids and give the items a mark-up. Might as well just not buy adaptive equipment at all if you expect to be screwed over.

maxiaids rocks. I have bought many things from there.

i have heard other similar stories, but you must remember, thatmaxi aids doesn't make most of what they sell. For the most part, they are a distributor, only makng a handful of what they sell.

Hey Mat. I know you're in Columbus. Have you ever bought from vision and vocational services? or have you ever heard of them? Good place.

My BF just bought a watch from maxi aids and so far it's working just fine. Hmm I don't know which to buy from I'm confused.

Um I just thought of this one and something doesn't sound right to me. Why didn't you return the product befor the 30 days were up? Not trying to jump down your throat but if you had the product past the 30 days of warrantee then there's nothing they can pretty much do about it

Because it was working then, lol.

Hi. I think Maxi Aids sucks, too. They don't have good quality, and everyone I've talked to when I call has been unfriendly. They sound like they're all having horrible days. ILA is at least more friendly.

I've only talked with one polite person, when calling MaxiAids. Every other time, it's always been someone who is really rude, and sounding like they don't want to be there, answering phones. If they don't want to help people, then why be there? They could definitely train there customer service representatives to be much nicer, and polite. I've only ordered one thing from MaxiAids, and that was a Braille scrabble game. So, I don't think anything will stop working. For other things, though, I don't think I'll order anything from them.

Oh don't ever buy from Maxi aids, they steal product ideas and have more court battles than any company I have ever herd of. ILA is good and IRTI is good to. Its to bad that a lot of stuff that's made for us, is over priced in the first place. Just my opinions!

Where can I get one of those Braille compasses? I know Maxi-Aids has one, and I'd like to find one exactly like it.

Yeah, ya know I bought a watch from maxi aids and, during some really cool event, some part of the thing snapped! Itt was that thing you push up, read th time then put back down again! It only lasted, what, a year and 2 seconds! I bought a clock that still, thankfully works, and is so loud I jump out of bed when I hear it. Iam 12 now and when I got it like 6 years ago, and it rang out I almost leaped out of my skin, howling, "mommy, mommy, what happened, what is it!"
"it's a clock, hun" she said. Wayyy too loud, it barks the time at me. "3:40 pm" it yelps at me... But it's a good clock, so I cant complain really.

Well, maxy aids is okay, but my best friend bought a tape recorder from there, and it didn't work. Have you heard of aph? They do text books, and I'm not sure what all they sell. Aph is american printing house for the blind.

I've bought several things from Maxi Aids, as well as had things ordered for me when I was growing up, and haven't had too much of a problem with them. The only thing I can really recall having a problem with was a thermometer Mom got me for Christmas one time that decided to stop talking after several months of her purchasing it, and I just haven't gotten around to ordering another one.
I'll agree though, that with a lot of these companies the items they sell are really high in price, so I just order what I can when I can scrape together the money for it.

Being from Long Island, I've had to deal with Maxi Aids in all their glory...Suffice it to say I no longer do so. I think I still have one of the audio catalogs from there, with this girl with this deep Long Island accent reading products and pricing, bored as ever.

Post 24 by soaring eagle (flying high again!) on Tuesday, 09-Oct-2007 13:38:02

No one should by from them they stell, cheat people and have been in court as much as O.J has. there business practices stink and so there does their customer service.

Hey,
I purchased something from Maxi Aids. I did this online. The next morning Maxi Aids called and said that there was a problem with the credit card. That night, I asked my dad and he checked and there was no problem with the credit card. I just canceled the order.
My friend also had an experience with Maxi Aids. BVS ordered something for him but he didn't get it until three weeks after it was ordered. Of course, that could have also been BVS's fault. We all know how BVS can be.

One thing I don't like is that things blind people buy are a lot more expensive than the sighted person's equivalent. I think that whatever is sold to the blind should cost as much as what is sold to the sighted.

Post 27 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 25-Nov-2007 11:20:38

One of the reasons gadgets for the blind cost more is the speech that makes them accessible. without that, I'm assuming the cost would not be that much more than what the average sighted person would pay.
